Design thinking approach to Management Education

An Indian Institute of Design teaches a design thinking approach towards business. Design thinking courses encourage students to work on products, services and systems that lead to a sustainable holistic lifestyle. The course is taught through co-creation workshops and classroom projects, and the students are given the freedom to choose their own individual projects.

MIT Institute of DesignUntil now, management education has largely been dominated by an analytical thinking. But in the MIT Institute of Design, we have a unique management education program that has a design thinking approach towards business education. This means using design thinking as a means of developing a competitive advantage for sustained business growth. In my own research, I’m working on my PhD on the same topic with special focus on business in India.

Our Design Thinking courses encourage students to work on products, services and systems that lead to a sustainable holistic lifestyle. The course is taught through co-creation workshops and classroom projects, and the students are given the freedom to choose their own individual projects. Faculty members all have a sensitivity towards design, as well as a knowledge of and belief in the power of design thinking. They are nearly always industry professionals or entrepreneurs.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we are the only Design School that provides a management program, and on the fact that we do not specialise in any one area such as Marketing, HR or Finance. Rather, our students are actively encouraged to take a holistic view of business.
